United States Congressman Al Green Endorses Jamaal Smith For State Representative, House District 137

Congressman For District 9 Supports Smith As His Candidate To Represent District 137

June 20th, 2012 – (HOUSTON, TX) – United States Congressman Al Green (TX-9) has endorsed Jamaal Smith as his candidate for State Representative, House District 137 in the July 31st runoff. As a leading member on the House Committee on Financial Services, Congressman Green views Smith as a great candidate to help promote business development and economic growth within District 137.

“Jamaal is  well suited to help develop and sustain a strong, vibrant economy for the people of District 137,” said Green. “Attracting businesses, qualified workers, and their families is   an important way to help push District 137 forward. Congressman Al Green is currently in his fourth term in the United States House of Representatives representing Texas’ 9th Congressional District. As a member of the House Committee on Financial Services, Congressman Green’s chief legislative priorities are rebuilding the country’s economy and stabilizing the American housing market. Congressman Green is a lifelong civil rights activist and served as President of the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) for over ten years.

About Jamaal: Jamaal Smith most recently served as policy advisor and community liaison for State Senator Rodney Ellis.  Prior to that, Jamaal was the Executive Director of the Harris County Democratic Party and worked as Legislative Director for the late Representative Joe E.
